Neck-through African mahogany. Macassar ebony bookmatched top with maple accents. Wedge headstock. Built 2017.
The Ebony Explorer was built around a single visual constraint: everything visible would be ebony or black. No binding, no inlays, no contrast hardware. The Macassar ebony bookmatched top with maple accents does all the visual work — the figure in the wood carries the design.
The African mahogany body is capped with a Macassar ebony bookmatched top with maple accents — the same treatment carries to the wedge headstock, creating a unified visual language across the whole instrument. The neck-through 3-piece hard maple neck maximises sustain and stability. The Macassar ebony fretboard has a 12″ radius and 22 jumbo stainless steel frets.
DiMarzio humbuckers run through a simple 1-volume, 3-way switch circuit — a Switchcraft jack mounted in a custom jack plate keeps the output clean. Strings load through the body for improved sustain and break angle. The custom wood pick rings are bookmatched to the body top, and the control cavity uses a magnetic wood cover — no screws, no hardware visible from the back. All metal hardware is finished in black.
